Spare a thought for poor Tian Tian (aka Sweetie). In case you haven't already heard, there are those who think it inappropriate to have a panda included in the BBC's female faces of 2011. What do you think, does she outclass the BBC's choice for April, 2010, when they went for Peppa Pig?

Panda to the press

It seems rather silly, but then most of the media see women as silly things anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe BBC says that the whole exercise was meant to be light-hearted. I suppose, in fairness, they did include a Carp among the men in 2009.
DeleteTotally inappropriate, on semantic grounds. If that is a woman (as per the BBC's headline), then so is the brown blackbird on my bird table.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Tim. And, if the BBC are really looking at ways to cut back...
DeletePeppa Pig is a little girl pig, so no way should she be classed as a woman. The BBC are telling porkies.
ReplyDeleteYou know, Rog, I'm surprised this one wasn't tagged as spam.
DeleteI like your site! I like your photos and poems and little stories. I think you should enter this contest: http://bit.ly/vdWPOr As for a Panda being in the lineup - the easy way to see if it is patronizing: has an animal ever been included in the Men's list?
ReplyDeleteThanks. As I mentioned to Rubye Jack, there has been a Carp among the men.
DeleteIf they did include her, there'd be panda-monium
ReplyDelete(ouch! do I deserve a black eye for that one?)
I don't think I could bear that.
DeleteI'm beginning to find her strangely attractive. Help.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for it and I think she's lovely!
ReplyDeleteI should hope it was lighthearted, as you say; if those are representative females for a whole year. Apart from one or two remarkable women in that list it’s a bit of a farce. Anyway, let’s hope they don’t invite them all to a celebratory dinner, because the panda is the one who eats, shoots and leaves ;)
